NAME: Alasdair (Ally) MacLean

INSTRUMENT: Keyboards ‘n’ stuff

GEAR: Roland VK7, Yamaha P80
FAVOURITE JAM ALBUM: All Mod Cons
For a keyboard player it might sound surprising since it doesnt have much in the way of keys on it but along with Sound Affects it carries lots of growing-up memories.  Aside from those memories, musically, I also still love every second of it.  It was the first Jam album I actually bought and I copied it on to cassette for portable listening and just about wore the tape out completely.

FAVOURITE JAM SONG: English Rose
Again no keyboard and not even really in keeping with the rest of the album, let alone the rest of The Jam’s actual output up until then, but I still find the simplicity and atmosphere of the recording totally haunting - still get a hairs-raised-on-back-of-neck moment when I listen to it on headphones.
HOW & WHEN DID YOU GET INTO THE JAM
I was into 2 Tone and stuff around the revival time but I was always aware of The Jam and liked them but I only had only bought a few singles up to the time that I started going out with a Mod girl called Christine.  She played the albums constantly and rather than put me off the band it made me appreciate them more so I started buying the back catalogue and the last few new LP’s when they came out.

BEST JAM RELATED MEMORY: Meeting Rick Buckler
The band I was in, THE GOLDENHOUR, supported The Gift in Glasgow and Edinburgh and he was a true gentlemen.
(Oh and also memories relating to the girlfriend mentioned in the previous
